'Students' distance from BNP will encourage Awami League'
Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul wrote on his verified Facebook page, "No distance or misunderstanding is desirable between BNP and student leaders or the forces of mass uprising. We have received some evidence in the past few days of how much this can encourage and reckless the genocidal Awami League leaders and activists and their allies."
He wrote this in a post on his Facebook page after 12:30 pm on Sunday (January 26).
The legal advisor said, "For the past two days, Facebook has been flooded with rumors of the escape of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, advisors and student leaders. In the frenzy of these rumors, news has also been published that Awami League leaders and activists have tried to sabotage. A few people have called me in panic to find out what happened."
He further said, "I know and believe that BNP is not interested in any conspiracy or 1/11 type of thing. Student leaders are not forming or joining any political party while in government. The July Declaration will be a political document. The student leaders have the desire to sincerely reflect the views of the forces of the mass uprising in formulating it."
BNP and student leaders are not averse to a broader election-centric compromise (its form and formula are subject to discussion). So there is no reason for conflict. Everyone should understand that there is no alternative but unity.
Regarding the Awami League, he wrote, "The Awami League, a party of mass murderers, has millions of crores of taka in its hands. Behind them are powerful foreign states, opportunistic groups and a strong propaganda network. To stop them, we must remain united, remembering the sacrifices of the students and the people who died in the mass uprising. We will have differences of opinion, but it should not go to the point of becoming an encouragement for the enemies of Bangladesh."
